Picturethis3D introduces a fundamentally different, property-first approach to digital commerce designed to help Canadian manufacturers and retailers strengthen domestic markets and reach customers beyond traditional borders
VANCOUVER, British Columbia — August 31, 2026
As Canadian businesses confront escalating trade disruption and growing pressure to strengthen domestic markets while diversifying beyond the United States, Vancouver-based technology company Picturethis3D is opening a fundamentally different digital route to market for Canadian manufacturers and retailers—one that turns the consumer’s own property into a shopping environment.
Developed in Canada, the platform introduces a property-first approach to digital commerce that reverses the conventional 3D shopping model. Instead of asking consumers to bring their rooms into individual retailers’ visualization tools, Picturethis3D brings products from multiple businesses into a persistent digital representation of the consumer’s own property.
The launch comes at a critical time for Canadian business. The United States imposed a 50 per cent tariff on $27.6 billion of Canadian goods effective August 22, prompting the Government of Canada to announce matching counter-tariffs and a $7.5-billion package of new and enhanced measures to support Canadian workers and businesses affected by the trade disruption.
Against that backdrop, Picturethis3D is addressing one part of the diversification challenge: making it easier and more affordable for Canadian businesses to put their products in front of consumers at home, across Canada and in new markets.
“Canadian businesses are being asked to adapt quickly—to strengthen domestic markets, find new customers and become less dependent on traditional trade relationships,” said Richard Hillier, co-founder of Picturethis3D. “Technology can help, but only if businesses can afford to participate. We believe starting with the property rather than the product creates an entirely new opportunity for manufacturers, retailers and consumers.”
Most digital shopping is product centric. Consumers explore separate websites for furniture, flooring, cabinetry, lighting, appliances and other products, then try to imagine how everything will fit and work together.
Picturethis3D reverses that architecture.
Products and services from multiple sources can be discovered, compared and experienced in the context of the actual space where they will be used.
Will it fit? How will it look? What works together? How much material will I need? How do I get it?
“This isn’t about adding another 3D viewer to a manufacturer’s website,” Hillier said. “Instead of starting with a product and asking consumers to imagine it in their home, we start with the home and help them discover what belongs in it.”
Rather than creating another temporary visualization around an individual product, Picturethis3D creates a persistent digital property into which products, services and information from multiple sources can be introduced as needs arise.
For participating businesses, that creates an opportunity to reach consumers in the context of the actual property and much closer to the point at which purchasing decisions are being made.
An Affordable New Route to Market
Picturethis3D is designing participation to be accessible to businesses of virtually any size, from independent Canadian retailers and manufacturers to national brands.
Companies that have already invested in 3D product models can bring those existing digital assets into Picturethis3D and organize them into exclusive branded catalogues, extending the value of investments they have already made in product digitization rather than having to develop their own proprietary 3D shopping environment.
Products can then be discovered and experienced inside consumers’ digital properties as furnishing, renovation and home-improvement decisions arise.
Businesses without existing 3D assets are not excluded. Picturethis3D is developing the broader ecosystem to make entry into property-centric commerce accessible to companies at different stages of digital adoption.
Picturethis3D does not remove the logistical, regulatory or tariff barriers associated with international trade. Instead, it addresses another part of the diversification challenge: reducing the technological barrier to presenting products to consumers and developing new routes to market.
Made in Canada. Built for Global Reach.
Picturethis3D offers a Made-in-Canada technology response to both sides of the trade challenge: helping make Canadian businesses and products more visible to consumers at home, while giving manufacturers and retailers another way to reach customers beyond their traditional markets.
The timing also coincides with expanded federal support for businesses responding to trade disruption. On August 25, the Government of Canada announced an additional $1.5 billion for the Regional Tariff Response Initiative, intended to help businesses respond to tariff pressures, strengthen competitiveness, diversify exports and increase domestic trade.
Picturethis3D intends to help participating businesses identify government programs that may support eligible technology adoption, market development or trade-diversification costs. Eligibility and funding decisions remain subject to individual program requirements. Picturethis3D does not administer or guarantee government funding.
“Canadian businesses shouldn’t need enormous technology budgets to participate in the next generation of digital commerce,” Hillier said. “We want a local manufacturer or independent craftsperson to have access to the same digital property opportunity as a major international brand.”
At its foundation is the Digital Property Manual™—a persistent digital representation designed to remain connected to a property throughout its lifecycle:
EXPLORE → BUY → FURNISH → RENOVATE → MAINTAIN → MANAGE → SELL
Rather than disappearing after a listing, purchase or renovation, the digital property can evolve with the people who use it. Products, improvements, services, documents and property information can remain connected to the property as needs change over time.
That creates a common digital environment for homeowners, real estate professionals, manufacturers, retailers, designers, contractors, property managers and service providers.
The digital property becomes the place where everything comes together.
For businesses, the opportunity therefore extends beyond a single shopping transaction. Each stage of the Property Lifecycle creates new decisions—and new opportunities to connect relevant products and services with the people making them.
