CONFIRMED — Effective September 8, 2026
On August 28, the Government of Canada confirmed that new counter-tariffs will apply to $27.6 billion of U.S. imports beginning September 8. The rates will mirror applicable U.S. tariffs at 15%, 25% or 50%. Critically for the Picturethis3D ecosystem, furniture is specifically listed among goods subject to a 50% counter-tariff, while appliances are among goods subject to 25% tariffs.
This is important for Canadian furniture manufacturers, cabinetry/home-furnishing businesses and retailers. Imported U.S. products may become materially more expensive, strengthening the competitive position of Canadian-made alternatives while increasing cost pressure on businesses dependent on U.S. inventory. This strengthens the rationale for Made-in-Canada catalogues, Shop Local positioning and connecting Canadian manufacturers directly with Canadian consumers.
