The federal government just announced more than $12.5 million in repayable Regional Tariff Response Initiative funding for nine Hamilton-area manufacturers facing tariff-related pressures. The supported projects include advanced manufacturing, prefabricated steel buildings, packaging, industrial equipment and heating systems, with several companies specifically using the funding to modernize production, adopt digital technology and diversify into new markets.
Canadian Metal Buildings Inc. is receiving $750,000 toward a $3.39-million project to modernize operations and enter new markets using advanced manufacturing technologies and digital improvements. Superior Radiant Products Ltd. is receiving $1 million toward a $3.29-million project intended to increase manufacturing efficiency and diversify export opportunities through new technology and facility upgrades.
This is another strong indication that tariff-response funding is moving beyond emergency relief and into technology adoption, digital transformation and market diversification. That is directly relevant to Canadian manufacturers that could use Spatial Commerce to present products in realistic property environments and reach customers beyond existing distribution channels.
The announcement clarifies an important September change to the Regional Tariff Response Initiative: the federal government says the maximum non-repayable contribution will rise from $1 million to $3 million, with up to $2 million in liquidity support available for demonstrated tariff-related needs.
